Classification of Online Participation Tools
There are countless ways in which groups organise themselves online. Be it guilds in gaming, the Wikipedia community, social movements or political parties. They all need to coordinate, and to do so, they use a variety of participatory tools and platforms for different tasks, with different advantages and affordances. Commonly, the tools that are used are those that the participants are already familiar with, regardless of how fit they are for the purpose they are put to. The goal of this project is to create a common classification scheme in which such participatory tools can be compared and analysed.
Required skills are a basic understanding of how some participatory tools and platforms, such as wikis and forums, are used. All disciplines welcome.
